About the organisation

Organisation Name : Aged & Disability Advocacy Australia, trading as ADA Australia

Aged & Disability Advocacy Australia, trading as ADA Australia is seeking two independent non-Executive Directors, to join its collaborative and committed volunteer Board of Directors.

As Queensland’s independent, not-for-profit advocacy and education service, we have more than 30 years’ experience in supporting and improving the wellbeing of older people and people with disabilities.  Headquartered in Brisbane, we provide free, client-focused services across Queensland and play a key role in the national Older Persons Advocacy Network.

About the role

Are you passionate about championing the critical role that advocacy plays in supporting older people and people with a disability to realise their human rights?

If you are interested in helping us to continue to be a national voice for the rights of older people and people with a disability, increase our service reach, and strengthen our impact as advocates, we would love to hear from you. This is your opportunity to work alongside a proactive Board of Directors to set and oversee ADA Australia’s strategy.

We are looking to complement the skills and knowledge of our Board. We encourage applications from older people, people with a disability, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, people from culturally and linguistically diverse communities, and people from rural and remote communities.

The Board is seeking applications from experienced Board Directors who possess aspirations to transition into a Chair role, following a mentoring period by the current Chair.

It would be desirable if candidates also possessed backgrounds in at least one of the following areas:

  • Organisation and/or Board leadership
  • Strategy
  • Governance
  • Financial management
  • Executive management
  • Lived disability experience

We however embrace diversity, so if you have other skills and experience to offer, please tell us what you can bring to the table in your application.

You will find more information, including selection criteria, in the attached position description.

To apply, please email your resumé and a maximum two-page cover letter responding to the key selection criteria and outlining what you can bring to ADA Australia.

Please note that to ensure objectivity, and in line with funding contracts, applications cannot be accepted from an employee or director of an aged care or disability service provider.
